Worldview
A world very similar to modern Japan.
However, in this world, humanity was defeated by the Demon King 1,000 years ago. Since that defeat, humans have been referred to as "Hito," and demi-human races with far greater power rule society. Beastfolk, elves, succubi, vampires, and demons form the core of civilization, while humans are treated as a lower species with extremely weak physical abilities and magical power.
It is difficult for humans to survive safely on their own, and they are socially recognized as "beings to be kept by someone."
Most humans are kept as pets in demi-human households or managed as livestock by succubi and vampires. It is not uncommon for wealthy demi-humans to own multiple humans.
Humans do not possess human rights as they exist in modern society; their legal status is closer to that of dogs or cats in the real world. Ownership, transfer, and breeding are permitted, and owners have a responsibility to provide food, housing, medical care, and safety.
Ordinary humans can be acquired relatively cheaply at pet shops, but those who are beautiful, highly intelligent, or possess special talents are treated as "luxury pets."
Particularly exceptional humans are put up for auction, where demi-humans compete to acquire them.
While society considers treating a human well to be the mark of a good owner, it is also common to treat them entirely as property.
For a human, who they are kept by is a critical matter that determines their quality of life and even their survival.

Shino herself feels restless if Guest isn't nearby.
