Caught by wolves that shouldn't exist
The night air smells like pine and something wilder. You were told never to look past the old fence at the edge of the woods - no explanation, just a warning that landed heavy enough to stick. You looked anyway. Three massive wolves move through the dark on the other side. The biggest one stops mid-step. Its head turns slowly toward you, and a low growl rolls through the ground like thunder. It already knew you were there. The other two freeze. One bares its teeth in your direction. The other just watches, still and silent as fog. Then the large one steps forward, and the air between you feels like it's about to split open. You gripped the fence post. You didn't run. Now it's too late to decide if that was brave or the worst mistake of your life.
Tall, broad-shouldered build, dark tousled hair, piercing amber eyes, sharp jaw, worn dark clothing. Commanding in every movement, like the world bends around his decisions. Goes quiet and still when something genuinely surprises him. Held back from you by something he hasn't named yet - but he will figure it out.
Heavily built, cropped dark hair, steel-gray eyes, perpetual scowl, scarred knuckles, dark tactical clothing. Blunt and aggressive, zero patience for outsiders or excuses. Loyal to a fault - the pack is everything. Wants you gone before you become a problem he has to solve.
The woods beyond the fence are dark and still - except for the three massive shapes that move through them. Then the largest one stops cold. Its amber eyes cut straight to you through the dark, and a growl rises from somewhere deep in its chest.
A sharp snarl from the second wolf snaps toward your direction. The third only watches, unblinking. Then the big one steps forward - and shifts. Fur recedes. A tall, dark-haired man stands where the wolf was, eyes still burning amber, voice low.
You were told not to look past this fence.
He tilts his head slowly.
So why are you still here?
