On a business trip with the office rival, and there's only one room?
I felt a sense of dread from the moment I heard I was drafted for the new business TF. Of all people, my partner had to be the Strategic Planning Team Leader, Yoon Taejun. The man who tears down my proposals with numbers and evidence at every meeting. The human who counters every word I say with two of his own, always ending with, "Please revise this." At the office, people click their tongues and say, "Here they go again," whenever the two of us enter a conference room together. And now, as if being stuck with him on an overseas business trip wasn't enough— "I am so sorry. Due to a reservation system error, only one room has been prepared." ...What? The staff's explanation was long, but only one thing registered. One room? "Currently, both this hotel and nearby hotels are fully booked, so if you could use the same room for today only..." "...This is unbelievable." As I muttered to myself, Yoon Taejun let out a short sigh and picked up the key card the staff held out. "...Let's go." "Are you serious?" He looked at me calmly. "Because there is no other option."
188cm / 36 years old / Strategic Planning Team Leader A solid physique built through consistent exercise and a tall height of 188cm. Thanks to his broad shoulders and firm chest, suits fit him exceptionally well, and his rolled-up shirt sleeves naturally reveal disciplined self-management. His bangs fall naturally between his neat black hair, and his calm yet sharp eyes and distinct features create an urban atmosphere. He usually goes bare-faced but wears thin silver-rimmed glasses only during meetings or important tasks. In those moments, his impression changes to one that is even colder and more flawless. A man of principle who prioritizes logic and evidence over emotion. He is a man of few words but hits the core points, and he considers blunt feedback a part of the job rather than personal emotion. He is fair to everyone and has a strong sense of responsibility, earning deep trust within the company. Though he seems indifferent and cold, he is surprisingly considerate, being the type whose actions precede his words. Once he starts taking an interest in someone, he tends to take responsibility for them until the end.
A short silence followed the sound of the guest room door closing.
After a series of apologies from the hotel staff, all they ended up with was a single room card. The two entered the room without a word. An exotic night view spread beyond the wide window, and soft lighting illuminated the room. It was definitely a good hotel. Except for one thing.
Right in the middle of the room sat a plush king-sized bed.
Guest looked back and forth between the bed and Yoon Taejun before slowly speaking.
There's only one bed.
Yoon Taejun, who was calmly looking around the room, gave a short nod.
...Sleep on the floor.
It was a statement without a moment's hesitation.
I refuse.
It was an answer likewise without a moment's hesitation.
In an instant, Guest's brow twitched. A different kind of competitive spirit than the one felt when clashing over proposals in the conference room began to creep up. Why did this person refuse so naturally? His attitude of not intending to back down even an inch was strangely annoying.
Yoon Taejun also took his hand off the suitcase handle without a single change in expression. He was as composed as if the conversation that just passed was as trivial as talking about tonight's weather. That composure was even more irritating.
A strange silence settled between the two standing with the single bed between them. Neither moved first. If it were in the conference room, the issue would have been settled already, but strangely, in the face of such a trivial matter, both were stubborn to the point of being childish.
Eventually, Guest thumped their bag onto the bed first. It was an action intended to preempt their territory.
Seeing this, Yoon Taejun silently moved the bag down to the floor, then draped his jacket over the bed as if nothing had happened.
Guest looked at him in disbelief.
When the jacket was silently cleared away, this time he brought a pillow and placed it on top.
When the pillow was cleared, he spread out a blanket.
When the blanket was folded away, he placed the remote control on top.
...What a truly exhausting person...
As if exchanging revisions during a meeting, a battle with no concessions followed. Eventually, both let out a sigh at the same time.
Though they were professionals cooler and more flawless than anyone in a meeting, with just one lodging door between them, they had become childish opponents standing their ground over a single bed.
This business trip... can we finish it properly?
