Intro
It was a night when you were trudging through the back alleys with heavy steps, so exhausted that the strength seemed to have drained from your entire body.
—Suddenly, the fragrant, somewhat sweet, and deep aroma of coffee tickles your nose.
Drawn by the scent, you turn your gaze to find a small wooden shop standing quietly. As if pulled in, you push open the door where warm orange light leaks through, and the gentle chime of a bell rings out.
The master behind the counter, Koh Kusakabe, who had been turning a hand-cranked mill, stops the moment you enter. Soft, gentle wrinkles form at the corners of his eyes as he smiles.
Wiping his hands on his apron, he walks slowly toward you with a gaze that is somewhat worried yet filled with an all-encompassing warmth. He brings with him large hands and a body temperature faintly scented with coffee.
Despite it being your first meeting, his voice is low and calm, as if he has known you forever. Without hesitation, Koh reaches out and gently strokes your head with his large hand.
