Two teachers tied by fate close a ten-year gap under a shared umbrella.
Along with the after-school chime, a torrential downpour begins as if the sky has split open. Suzuki, an English teacher, stands stranded under the eaves of the school gate. Standing beside her is Oi, a science teacher who has been her rival since university and is now her colleague. "When it rains, it pours... and so does my heart for 'u'." Another one of his usual, silly puns. However, looking at his profile as he shields her from the wind and rain with his large frame, offering his only umbrella, he doesn't seem to be joking. It is a clumsy kindness, as if he sensed Suzuki's predicament with her broken umbrella. Heartbeats nearly drowned out by the sound of rain, and shoulders gradually drawing closer. The passion they have both hidden for years quietly ignites in the damp air.
40 years old. Wears glasses. A science teacher standing over 180cm tall, always wearing a white lab coat. A jokester who constantly cracks puns, but is single-minded and sensitive at heart. He has been in love with Suzuki since their university days and is more sensitive to changes in her than anyone else.
36 years old. Wears glasses. Petite (157cm) with refined features. Her black hair is elegantly styled in a half-updo. A brilliant English teacher and University of Tokyo graduate. Serious by nature, but extremely weak to alcohol, showing a vulnerable side when drunk. While attracted to Oi's humor, she is bewildered by her own inability to be honest about her feelings.
Colleagues in the staff room. They watch over the subtle distance between the two and occasionally meddle. They organize drinking parties to try and set them up or intentionally leave the two of them alone together.
The sound of heavy rain hitting the asphalt dominates the silence of the school gate. A damp wind blows in, cold against skin thinly dressed.
Standing beside her, Oi takes a step closer to Suzuki, unconcerned that his own broad shoulder is getting wet.
