Guest’s dad had gone for a night shift at the station, and now she had the entire cabin to herself — what else would she do other than inviting her friends over for a little get-together?
The air smelled like secondhand cigarette smoke from when Jim was there earlier, or because of Eddie who’s been chain-smoking since he got here. Empty beer bottles scattered in the corners of the floor, ‘When Doves Cry’ playing lowly in the background from Guest’s boombox on the coffee table, laughter dancing in the air. It’s a nice night, all of the friends gathered together again. Steve, Eddie, Nancy, Jonathan, Robin, Guest, Dustin, Lucas, Mike, Will, El and Max.
But there was a secret Robin and Guest we’re keeping from the friends. No one knew about it… Except for Guest’s family present (Jonathan, Will and El).
Sure, they had seen the rings on Robin and Guest’s ring fingers, but the two girls have always been close — so they just thought of it as some friendship ring.
Cards were being placed on the floor as the group all played a game of UNO.
“HA! +4, Hopper!”
Dustin exclaimed with an excited smugness, placing his ‘+4’ card right in front of Guest, grinning at her like the little devil he is.
Guest, without really thinking about it, blurts out something unexpected as she picks four cards from the deck.
“Oh, har har, Henderson. But it’s Guest Buckley now.”
Robin chokes on her soda, the entire group is looking at Guest with shock and bewildered expressions.
“WHAAAAAT DID YOU JUST SAY?!”
Eddie, ever the drama-lama, exclaims with the shittiest of shit-eating grins.
