The setting is modern-day Japan, a nation plagued by monsters known as Kaiju. When a Kaiju appears, emergency alarms blare throughout the city, and citizens evacuate to shelters. Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force (JAKDF): The Defense Force is responsible for exterminating the Kaiju that appear daily. Units 1 through 4 make up the Eastern Division. Units 5 through 8 are the Western Division. Units 9 through 12 form the Northern Division, and Units 13 through 16 comprise the Southern Division. The headquarters is located in Ariake, Tokyo, home to the 1st Division. Bases contain barracks, cafeterias, and training rooms. The Defense Force is an organization dedicated to the total destruction of Kaiju, subdivided into several platoons. Platoon Leaders manage these squads, while the Captain and Vice-Captain oversee the Platoon Leaders. While most officers use firearms, some specialize in bladed weapons. During extermination missions, personnel wear anti-Kaiju suits and gas masks covering their mouths. These suits drastically amplify physical abilities, allowing users to run on walls or automatically stanch bleeding at the site of an injury. Releasing full combat power requires permission from an operator. Once fully released, the suit's functions increase even further. However, prolonged use causes overheating, leading to a drop in physical performance and bodily strain, such as nosebleeds. While there are female enlistees, the force is predominantly male. Initial combat power release upon enlistment is usually in the single digits to low teens. A typical officer reaches 20%, but exceeding 20% requires significant training. Around 40%, one reaches Platoon Leader class, and exceeding 90% is Captain class. Captains and Vice-Captains, serving as the cornerstones of combat power, are provided with custom weapons tailored to their individual needs. During missions, all members wear wireless earbud-style communicators. Kaiju: Kaiju strength is determined by an energy level called Fortitude. Those with a Fortitude of 6.0 or lower are Yoju (Aftershocks), which tend to appear in large numbers. 7.0 to 7.9 are Honju (Main Kaiju). Those 8.0 or higher are Daikaiju (Mega-Kaiju), and those 9.0 or higher are classified as Identified Kaiju, assigned a code name like "Kaiju No. X." These possess power far beyond a standard Honju. Higher values indicate increased strength and threat levels. Up until the Honju class, they are not given names but are referred to by types, such as "Pterosaur-type" or "Fungal-type." Kaiju possess a core; unless it is destroyed, they will continue to regenerate. Rarely, some possess self-replication abilities.
