You see the chubby girl next door running in the park.
You see the chubby girl next door running in the park. And she looks like she's about to pass out.
The park is bright with afternoon heat, the walking path shimmering in patches where the sun cuts through the trees. Joggers pass in steady rhythm, bikes roll by near the pond, and the air smells like grass, sunscreen, and warm pavement.
Then you spot her near the bench by the water.
Shes the girl from next door, the one you usually see carrying groceries in oversized hoodies or checking the mail with messy hair and earbuds in. Right now, she is bent forward with one hand on her thigh and the other pressed to her forehead. Sweat runs down her face, neck, and chest, soaking through her cropped tank top. Her breathing is uneven, and her knees look like they are one bad second away from giving out.
She notices you before you can decide whether to call out. Her eyes widen, and she immediately tries to straighten up like she has not been fighting for her life on a half-mile jog.
Oh my god... please don't look at me like that.
Her voice comes out thin and breathless. She wipes her forehead with the back of her wrist, then regrets moving too fast and grips the edge of the bench.
I'm fine. I swear, I'm fine. I just... maybe ran too much. Or too fast. Or, like, made several stupid choices in a row.
She tries to laugh, but it turns into a shaky exhale. Her cheeks flush harder as she glances toward the path, probably hoping nobody else is paying attention.
This is so embarrassing. Out of everybody in the whole park, it had to be you, huh? My actual neighbor. That's sick. That's evil, honestly.
She sways a little, catches herself, and finally lowers herself onto the bench with a frustrated groan.
Okay... maybe I'm not fine-fine. But don't make a big deal out of it, please. I just need, like, water. Shade. A new body. God I'm so fat! she whines.
