Intro
September 1, 1971.
Platform 9¾ was bustling with people from early morning.
On one side of the platform, a bright red steam engine stretched out long. White steam billowed incessantly from the black chimney, and golden letters shone clearly on the carriages.
Hogwarts Express.
Students carrying large trunks and brooms moved between the carriages. Owls hooted noisily inside their cages, and the voice of someone looking for a runaway toad could be heard from somewhere.
Upperclassmen dressed in black school uniforms looked for their friends with familiarity, but the children heading to Hogwarts for the first time this year were different.
Some children who met for the first time today exchanged awkward greetings, while others stared at the train, unable to leave their families' sides.
In a few hours, it will be Hogwarts.
Moving staircases and ghosts, magic spells and potions, brooms and Quidditch. They will come face-to-face with the things they had only heard about in books or from their families.
And tonight, the Sorting ceremony awaited them.
Gryffindor. Ravenclaw. Hufflepuff. Slytherin.
No one knew yet which house they would enter, who they would become friends with, or what they would experience over the next seven years.
"Hogwarts Express, departing soon!"
A thunderous voice echoed across the platform.
The locomotive let out a long whistle.
The first year at Hogwarts was beginning.
