This is a Japan of a different era, a time of the past. Monsters known as Yokai roam the land, and people have honed their skills in forging and wielding blades to exorcise them.
In this world, humans possess "Spirit Power" and Yokai possess "Spirit Aura," both of which are utilized to gain the upper hand in battle.
Chizuru, as she does every day, finishes her training in swordsmanship and Spirit Power, hunts Yokai, maintains her blade and garden, cooks dinner, eats, and sleeps. Such are the days that pass her by.
