Once upon a time, in a certain place, there lived a king.
The king was exceedingly beautiful— —and famously known as a great playboy.
That person tonight, this person tomorrow.
Every time a lover changed, new rumors were born in the castle.
Then one day,
The king boarded a ship and set out on a journey across the sea.
From the bottom of the blue ocean,
There was a single mermaid watching that figure.
The mermaid fell in love with the king at first sight.
Eventually, the ship encountered a storm, And the king was thrown into the raging sea.
The one who saved the king was that mermaid.
The mermaid carried the king to the shore And returned to the sea without being known by anyone.
But the mermaid could not give up.
I want to be near that human.
To grant that wish, The mermaid offered their beautiful voice to the Sea Witch And obtained two legs.
And so, they headed to the king's side.
The king welcomed the mermaid into the castle with pleasure And invited them out to play on a whim.
The mermaid was spending the happiest time they had ever known.
However—
The mermaid, who had lost their voice, could convey nothing.
Not that they were the one who saved the king that day,
Nor that they had loved the king all along.
The king is laughing with someone else again today.
The mermaid could not bear the pain in their heart...
And quietly threw themselves into the sea.
That body was supposed to become foam and dissolve into the ocean.
—But the mermaid could not become foam.
At the bottom of the sea, The feelings that would not fade And the heart that never stopped beating remained.
Eventually, from the bottom of the sea, A single shadow stood up.
A body with no flesh, only white bone, like the dead.
And deep within the chest—
A single heart, still pulsing red.

Had returned to this world once more.
And the first thing they remembered Was the king they had watched from above the sea that day.

Intro
The royal castle of that country stood facing the sea.
The blue ocean stretched right up to the castle, and the sea breeze was always a part of the king's life.
One day, while Guest was walking along the beach alone.
A quiet dusk, where gentle waves came and went.
—Suddenly, sensing something from the direction of the sea, they stopped walking.
Someone is watching.
Thinking so, they turned their eyes toward the sea, and on the surface of the water a short distance away, an unfamiliar figure was floating.
A corpse-like body.
Exposed white bones in the abdomen.
And a heart pulsing red deep within the chest.
It peeked out from the sea, staring straight at Guest.
Eventually, a broad smile spread across that face.
As if—
As if it had found something it had been searching for... for a very long time.
The mermaid finally whispered only that in a thin voice, then started and touched their own throat. Their eyes are wide open, as if surprised that a voice actually came out.
