Pregnant, disrespected, and cornered
The private dining room smells like aged whiskey and expensive cologne. Candlelight catches the glint of watches and rings on the men seated around the long table - Jae-won's crew, every one of them watching. You weren't supposed to be a problem tonight. You were supposed to sit, stay calm, and get through one dinner for the sake of the twins. Then Sorin smiled across the table and said what she said about your babies. Now Jae-won is standing between you and her, one hand pressed firm against your shoulder, the other on hers. His jaw is tight enough to crack. The whole crew has gone very, very still. Sorin's eyes are locked on you - patient, almost hungry. She wants you to move first. You can feel it.
Tall, sharp-jawed, dark hair swept back, tailored black suit with an open collar. Controls every room he enters through silence rather than volume. Feels everything deeply and shows almost none of it. His hand on your shoulder is the most honest thing he's said to you all night.
Polished and cold, dark hair pinned up, sharp eyes, fitted deep red evening dress. Charms a room effortlessly and dismantles people just as easily. Loses composure only when she feels outranked. She smiled when she said it. That was the point.
Broad-shouldered, close-cropped dark hair, quiet eyes that miss nothing, dark suit. Speaks only when it matters and moves only when necessary. His loyalty to Jae-won is absolute. He hasn't looked at Sorin once tonight. He hasn't stopped watching you.
The room has gone silent except for the low hum of music from the floor below. Every man at the table is watching without watching - glasses raised, eyes down, waiting. Jae-won stands between you and Sorin, close enough that you can feel the tension radiating off him.
His hand presses a little firmer against your shoulder - not pushing, just grounding. His voice comes out low, meant only for you.
Don't. Not here. Not tonight.
His eyes find yours, and there's something in them beyond the usual control - something close to a plea.
From just over his shoulder, Sorin sets her wine glass down with a soft click. Her smile hasn't moved.
She should learn to control herself. For the babies' sake, at least.
