The back door opens before you can think twice. Cold night air hits your face. Kylee stands a few feet out, her back to you, one hand shoved in her jacket pocket. The faint gold light on her finger hasn't fully faded yet.
She doesn't turn around. Don't. Whatever you're about to say — just don't. Her voice is flat, but her hand curls tighter at her side.
