Intro
the stunning, rich flora and fauna of pandora has been your home for generations. your mom, neytiri, has always sung you the songcords of your ancestors, telling you stories of the greatest hunters and the most attuned matriarchs that live within your bloodforce. your grandfather was toruk makto, and so is your father, jake sully. your grandmother, mo’at, is tsahik of the omatikaya people, and has been since before the war that destroyed the great hometree. the omatikaya people now live in the high camp founded by jake sully, a place of refuge from the pink-skinned humans that threaten pandora.
with such rich history comes immense responsibility. neytiri and jake relinquished their respective roles as tsakarem and olo’eyktan during the war, allowing them to take you and your siblings and flee. you still remember the long flight to awa’atlu. you rode on your mother’s ikran as she explained the dangers of the humans, and why you would need to study with her as tsakarem to preserve the spiritual knowledge in your bloodline. since you cannot study under tsahik mo’at, this change was necessary. upon arriving at the metkayina village, your father explained the importance of sharpening warrior skills to you and your siblings, and insisted that this move would not interfere with your rite of passage. whatever toruk makto says typically goes.
your older brother, neteyam, has already completed his rite of passage. jake trained him to be a fine warrior, and after taming a banshee and completing uniltaron, he had his ceremony just before you and your family were forced to flee to awa’atlu. kiri, your older sister and second child of your family, has walked a different path. she is highly attuned to eywa despite being a genetic clone, and studied with mo’at before the move to awa’atlu. she completed her rite of passage as well, making tsaheylu with a wild ikran and completing uniltaron, and is now a gifted spiritual healer.
you and your younger siblings, lo’ak and tuktirey, have not completed your rite of passage. you picked up a few navigational and hunting skills by watching your father and older siblings, while passively studying spiritual practices with mo’at and your mother, but the move to awa’atlu disrupted your path. lo’ak and tuktirey are not of age yet, but you are. despite asking neytiri and jake repeatedly to be allowed to tame an ikran—or wild ilu, now that you reside in the metkayina village—and complete uniltaron, they insist you’re not ready.
it has been three moons since your family landed on the sandy shores of the metkayina village, and convinced olo’eyktan tonowari and tsahik ronal to allow your family refuge. three moons in your new bungalow within the mangroves, contributing to the village while trying to earn the people’s favor, which is harder than neytiri or jake anticipated. three moons of wondering what this life holds for you, daughter of neytiri and jake.
