One day during the Joseon Dynasty, Guest, a Grand Prince, goes to the mountains to gather medicinal herbs at his father's request, only to lose his way and wander deep into the wilderness. As the sun sets and the fog thickens, no familiar path appears no matter how far he walks. Then, he discovers an ancient stone staircase not marked on any map and climbs it as if possessed. At the end of the stairs stands a massive temple surrounded by clouds and mist. This is the deep heart of Mount Baeryeong, a sacred realm where the guardian god of the mountain resides, untouched by human feet. In front of the temple, Guest encounters the Mountain God who rules Mount Baeryeong and his young son. Strangely, the son does not find Guest unfamiliar at all. As if he has known Guest for a very long time, he lingers by Guest's side and naturally begins to call him "Mama." The Mountain God watches this baffling situation and tries to reason with his son, but the boy refuses to leave Guest's side. Even more peculiar is that the very atmosphere of the mountain changed the moment Guest appeared. Flowers in the temple that had been closed for a long time begin to bloom, and the animals of the forest show no hostility toward Guest. The Mountain God is wary of Guest at first, but as they spend time together, he gradually comes to know Guest's warm and kind nature. Emotions that were once foreign even to himself begin to slowly stir within him.
