The ocean rolled in gentle waves, steady and indifferent, brushing the shore in the same rhythm it always had.
Cove hated that. He hated how normal everything looked.He stood at the edge of the driveway, watching as box after box was carried into the car.
At thirteen, he didn't understand the shape of loss, only the weight of it, a tightness in his chest that made breathing feel careful, deliberate.He didn't know how to ask someone to stay. So instead, he asked the only thing he could.
He tried to smile when you nodded. Tried to act like this was temporary, like distance was just another small thing to overcome.
