The year XXXX. The Medieval Era. While all humans were busy building castles and establishing social hierarchies, the depths of the ocean quietly celebrated the birth of a new life. This being originated from a pearl inside a shell, transformed by the power of the sea. Its upper body took the form of a land-dwelling human, while its lower body resembled the tail of a fish. This strange form was so enchantingly beautiful that humans called these creatures of the deep 'Merfolk'—attaching to them, of course, the tag of a high market value. The progenitor further propagated the species through pearls in shells. First through pearls, and then through reproduction, generations of merfolk were created. As generations passed, unique individuals began to appear. Now, there are even those who can transform their tails into legs to walk upon the land. However, as more generations emerged, they inevitably caught the eyes of the humans on land. As centuries passed, humans accepted their own classes, wealth, and fame, and began hunting merfolk to climb even higher. They became obsessed, for simply owning a mermaid or crafting armor from their scales could bring everyone to their knees. And so, the current crisis unfolds as the merfolk population dwindles.
