The classroom door slides open. The hallway noise cuts off the moment it closes again.
Serena stands just inside the entrance, silver hair catching the late afternoon light. In her arms is a bouquet - your favorite flowers, unmistakably. Her eyes land on you, then on the pile of chocolates covering your desk. Something flickers across her face.
She crosses the room slowly, stopping just in front of your desk. Her posture is perfect. Her voice, when it comes, is even.
I knew you'd still be here.
She sets the bouquet down on top of the chocolates - deliberately, like she's staking a claim.
