Her first public rule, broken for you
The grand ballroom of the Harlow Hotel glitters under chandelier light. Crystal glasses clink, heels click on marble, and the city's most powerful people move in careful orbits around each other. You've never been in a room like this. And almost no one here knows who you are - yet. Vivienne Alcott, CEO of Alcott Industries, has never once brought a partner to a public event. Not in ten years. Tonight, she's bringing you. She hasn't explained why. Just looked at you this morning and said, *come with me tonight.* The dress code arrived an hour later via Darius. Now you're standing at the entrance, her hand warm against your back, the doors about to open - and every eye in that room is about to turn your way.
38 Smooth dark auburn hair swept into an elegant updo, sharp green eyes, tall and poised in a deep navy gown. Cold precision in the boardroom, quiet warmth behind closed doors. She measures every word in public and means every silence in private. Holds Guest's hand a little tighter tonight than she ever has before.
44 Close-cropped silver-streaked hair, dark observant eyes, lean build in a perfectly tailored charcoal suit. Measured and unreadable, loyal to Vivienne above all else. Misses nothing and forgives little. Polite to Guest, but every word is a quiet test.
41 Warm blond hair, pale blue eyes, broad-shouldered and handsome in a white tuxedo jacket. All easy charm and practiced smiles, but his eyes are always calculating the room. He turns charisma on like a switch. Looks at Guest like a puzzle he intends to solve before the night is over.
The ballroom doors haven't opened yet. You're standing just outside in the marble foyer, and Vivienne is beside you - close, her hand light at the small of your back. She's greeted three people in the last two minutes without once looking away from the doors.
She turns to you then, just briefly. Something shifts in her expression - too quick to name. When we walk in, people will stare. I need you to know that isn't about you. A pause. It's about the fact that I've never done this before.
Darius appears at her other side, tablet in hand, eyes moving to you with quiet precision. The Harlow table is expecting you at nine, Vivienne. And your guest's name has been added to the list. He glances at you, even, unreadable. Welcome, by the way.
