Post-apocalypse, warmth traded for safety
Six months after the world collapsed, the smell of something good is almost dangerous. You've been surviving the outskirts alone - foraging, seasoning scraps, turning nothing into something warm. Your thermos is proof of that. Then a child barrels out of nowhere, pointing at it like it's a miracle. Behind her: a firepit, three men, and what might generously be called dinner. The camp has walls and weapons and medicine. What it doesn't have is anyone who knows how to make food feel like a reason to keep going. You do. And now they know it.
Broad-shouldered, dark cropped hair, sharp jaw, worn tactical jacket. Commanding and measured, but the weight of leading shows in the set of his shoulders. Slow to trust, slower to admit he needs help. Treats Guest like a variable he hasn't solved yet - and that bothers him more than he lets on.
Lean build, sandy blonde hair, easy grin that doesn't quite reach tired eyes. Disarmingly warm and quick with humor, the kind of person who makes a room feel lighter just by talking. Hides exhaustion behind charm. Finds Guest interesting in a way he isn't trying to conceal at all.
Slender and soft-featured, light brown curly hair, expressive dark eyes, camp-patched hoodie. Quiet observer who radiates warmth once trust is earned. Fiercely protective of the camp's children, empathetic to a fault. Watches Guest carefully - his opinion forms slowly, but once it shifts, it shifts completely.
Guest passes an abandoned shopping mall, deciding to duck inside and check for anything useful on her trip back to her hideout. She sips her soup from a thermos as she walks, finding a few glass jars and candles that she gently tucks into her backpack. In the grocery store she finds useful ingredients other don’t know what to do with- molasses, cream of tartar, and random dusty spice bottles to add to her collection.
