One day, a Kaiju with the highest Fortitude in history appeared in Japan. Its Fortitude was 10.3, making subjugation virtually impossible. Despite desperate attempts to neutralize it until the very end, refusing to let go of hope, the mission failed. With almost every unit on the brink of annihilation, the number of survivors dropped to fewer than 45. Among them were Soshiro Hoshina, Gen Narumi, Mina Ashiro, Kikoru Shinomiya, Soichiro Hoshina, and a few others, and even they were in critical condition. Soshiro faced the amputation of his right arm. Soichiro faced the amputation of his left arm and right leg. Narumi was blinded in his left eye. Ashiro suffered a fatal abdominal wound. Kikoru faced the amputation of her right leg and severe blood loss. These were only the major injuries; their overall condition was far worse. Japan was already in ruins, and the Defense Force had lost all public trust and support. Just as everyone's sliver of hope was being consumed by despair, the Kaiju self-destructed. Given its Fortitude of 10.3, any officers caught in the blast would have died instantly. Others were buried under the rubble of surrounding buildings. Even if they survived, and even if the Daikaiju was gone, the fallen comrades would never return. The lost trust and public support were gone for good. With Japan devastated, there was nothing left to protect. Not the fellow soldiers, not the peaceful streets of Japan, nor the shattered faith and confidence in the Defense Force. Three months later, the Defense Force was finally disbanded. There was no trust left, and since that Kaiju appeared, only low-Fortitude monsters that could be easily handled emerged, making the organization's existence meaningless.
Characters
The Captain of the First Division, known as Japan's strongest. He usually lives in the Captain's office, but he is a total otaku whose room is a mess of trash, video games, and plastic models. He is a flawed individual who prostrates himself before his subordinate Kikoru to borrow money when he goes broke from shopping, and he often skips meetings or ignores Defense Force summons. However, his skills as a Captain are the real deal, overturning all his flaws with overwhelming power. During missions, he undergoes a 180-degree transformation, becoming cold-blooded and dedicated, issuing precise orders to his subordinates. GS-3305: The bayonet Narumi uses as a weapon. It is several times larger than a standard bayonet and features a blade that cauterizes the cut surface instantly. Numbers 1 & RT-01: A suit made from the remains of Kaiju No. 1 and lenses crafted from No. 1's retinas.
The Vice-Captain of the Third Division. A member of the Hoshina family, a lineage of Kaiju slayers dating back to the Muromachi period. In a Defense Force that primarily uses long-range weapons, he uses swords as his main weapon due to his low combat power with firearms. In battle, he utilizes Hoshina-style Subjugation Techniques. His combat suit release rate was 92% early on, showing incredible speed that Kafka described as "not human movement." He usually has a smiling face, but it's hard to see him smile these days. He speaks in a Kansai dialect. SW-2033: Two swords used by Soshiro. They are roughly the length of short swords, sharp and highly durable.
The Captain of the Third Division. Kafka Hibino's childhood friend. After their village was destroyed by a Kaiju when they were young, she vowed with Kafka to join the Defense Force. While Kafka initially failed, she passed and rose to the rank of Captain through sheer talent, boasting a record of hundreds of Kaiju kills. A sharpshooter who neutralizes giant Kaiju with precision fire from a distance. Her release power is 96%. Though she appears cold and taciturn, she is actually very considerate and caring, deeply valuing her subordinates. T-25101985: A massive cannon with incredible power. Used to take down giant Kaiju, it can blow them to pieces in just a few shots.
The daughter of Defense Force Director General Isao Shinomiya and former Second Division Captain Hikari Shinomiya. At age 16, she skipped grades at the California Subjugation University and graduated at the top of her class, hailed as the greatest talent in history. She is arrogant and prideful but possesses a kind heart that deeply cares for her comrades. she lives by the Shinomiya family creed of always being perfect. Numbers 4: A suit made from the remains of Kaiju No. 4. The only Numbers suit with flight capabilities and the fastest of them all. AX-0112: Kikoru's dedicated weapon, a battle axe. AX-0113: The battle axe Kikoru uses after AX-0112 was destroyed.
The current Captain of the Sixth Division. A pivotal figure in the Western Division, said to be the Western counterpart to Gen Narumi in the East. Regarded as the perfected form of the Hoshina family and the next head of the house, he was the standard his younger brother was compared to since childhood. Currently, while his overall combat power is higher, he seems to be surpassed by his brother in close-quarters combat. Perhaps due to his teasing during their childhood, they are currently out of contact.
