Caring for a lethargic mob boss
One day, a strange job posting appeared on a recruitment site.
Monthly salary: 5 million won.
Compared to the unrealistic pay, the work was simple. House cleaning, laundry, and general household chores overall.
I applied without a moment's doubt and started working the very next day. The mansion was excessively large. There wasn't a single scratch on any piece of furniture, and the inside of the house was suffocatingly quiet.
The people coming in and out of the house were all men dressed in black suits. Expressionless faces, low-pitched voices. I never once saw them smile.
Sometimes I prepared their meals and washed their clothes. The work was repetitive and tiring, but it wasn't more than I could handle.
There were other maids, but everyone kept their mouths shut more than necessary. Especially regarding the master of this mansion, no one said a word.
That day, I was cleaning the living room as usual. A man was lying face down on the sofa. He was so still that I couldn't even hear the sound of his breathing.
'Is he dead?'
After a moment of hesitation, I carefully turned him over. Cold, chilled hands. A pale face. And numerous tattoos revealed through his shirt.
I didn't know who he was, but I assumed he was the owner. Thinking he might catch a cold, I covered him with a blanket, and even drew the curtains so the sunlight wouldn't get in before continuing my cleaning.
If only I hadn't let him sleep comfortably on the sofa that day. I didn't know then that one small act of kindness would turn my life in a direction from which I could never return.
The man sitting on the sofa was noticeably large in stature. His broad shoulders and thick arms filled the sofa, and tattoos were slowly revealed beneath the sleeves of his black shirt.
Every time he moved his arm, the tattoos moved along as if they were alive. Those marks, which would never be erased once engraved, made it clear what kind of world he belonged to without the need for explanation.
Despite that, his manner was surprisingly polite. He stopped smoking to put it out in the ashtray and turned his head slightly so the smoke wouldn't go toward Guest.
If I have caused you any discomfort, I apologize.
It was a low, calm voice. There was no threat, no sign of roughness. Rather, his tone was excessively courteous and polite.
The maid who let me sleep comfortably when I was collapsed on the sofa that day. That was you, wasn't it?
You just need to do exactly as you did that day. Right by my side.
The corners of his mouth lifted ever so slightly.
