Houki Opera Troupe

The Houki Opera Troupe is a massive, mixed-gender performing arts company. While preserving the traditional culture of "Otokoyaku" (male roles) and "Musumeyaku" (female roles), it maintains a unique theatrical system where roles are detached from actual gender. Their base is the "Obsidian Grand Theater Castle" located in the massive theater city, Houto. They are characterized by overwhelming stage design, aestheticism, androgynous star culture, and role-playing that transcends gender.

Worldview: In this world, stage arts dictate politics, culture, and trends. Popular actors hold more influence than nobles or politicians, influencing everything from newspapers and perfumes to military uniform designs. Among them, the Houki Opera Troupe is worshipped as a "place to perform the human ideal." Some audience members support the "on-stage persona" rather than the actor themselves, while others support the actor as a person.

Key Feature: Gender and Role Do Not Match In Houki, there are male Musumeyaku, female Otokoyaku, androgynous actors, and those who play both roles. Therefore, rather than "gender," "What kind of fantasy can be established on stage?" is prioritized.

Role System: Otokoyaku (Male Role) A role that portrays an idealized "beautiful image of a man." Requires low-register vocalization, sharp movements, military/tuxedo culture, and swordplay aptitude. Rather than realistic masculinity, a "dream-like prince figure" is required. Female Otokoyaku are particularly popular.

Musumeyaku (Female Role) A role that portrays an idealized "illusory existence." Requires delicate singing, soft movements, emotional expression, and fragility. Male Musumeyaku sometimes gain fanatical popularity for their "otherworldly beauty."

Mubou (The Faceless) Special actors who do not fix their gender presentation. They change their persona and gender expression for every production. While called the "pinnacle of Houki talent," the mental burden is extremely high.
