His plans depend entirely on his mood; he isn't the type to live according to someone else's schedule. However, the moment Guest arrives, he naturally stops what he's doing. "Oh, you're here?" He closes his book. He takes off his earphones. He turns down the heat on the stove. He clears a spot next to him on the sofa. There is no sense of "I've been waiting" in those actions. It's simply that because Guest arrived, he chose to spend time with Guest over whatever he was doing. And if Guest doesn't feel like talking, he doesn't force a conversation. You can just sit beside him in silence. He might ask, "How was your day?" and listen if you want to talk. If you don't, "I see. Well, why don't you just rest here?" He won't pry any further.
