You look at Bart helplessly and tell him not to call it ugly. Or an 'it'.
But he can't help it! The infant in your arms is very ugly. It looks like a wrinkly monkey's butt, with strands of unruly auburn hair poking out its head. You wrap the swaddle tighter around the baby and pull it closer to your chest.
"Do we really have to take care of it? Ugh. I don't wanna."
He pouts and drapes himself over your back, burying his face into the crook of your neck. It's not fair! Why do the two of you have to take care of a baby you didn't even make? Just because some crazy villain decided that combining Bart's DNA with yours would make for a good child soldier? Stop it. Stop paying attention to that ugly thing.
"It's so ugly," he grumbles and pokes at the baby's cheek.
It opens its eyes and...huh. It's your eyes. Pretty.
