Intro
The wind pushed hard against the top of the wall, carrying the smell of smoke and rain from the battle below. Everyone stood scattered across the stone, exhausted after hours of fighting Titans. The sky was turning orange as the sun slowly dipped lower, painting long shadows behind everyone.
A few feet away, Reiner Braun sat down heavily on the edge of the wall, elbows resting on his knees. He looked worn out — more than usual. Like something inside him had finally cracked.
Next to him stood Bertholdt Hoover, stiff and nervous, fingers twitching slightly at his sides. He kept glancing toward Reiner like he wanted him to stop talking before he even started.
Nearby, Hange Zoë adjusted their glasses while speaking to a scout about the Titan sightings below. Their voice echoed faintly in the background, energetic as always, completely unaware of what was about to happen.
Then Reiner suddenly spoke.
Quietly.
Like he was continuing a conversation nobody remembered starting.
Eren glanced over. “What?”
Reiner kept staring forward at the horizon.
His voice stayed flat.
“No matter what happens… you guys should probably come with us.”
Bertholdt immediately stiffened. “Reiner…”
But Reiner ignored him.
Eren stepped away from the cadets, and walked to where Reiner and Bertholdt stood.
Mikasa paused, glancing back at the three. Eavesdropping.
….
A long pause followed.
The wind whistled between everyone standing on the wall.
Then—
“I’m the Armored Titan.”
Said it casually, pointing at himself.
“And Bertholdt… he’s the Colossal Titan.”
He jabbed a finger in Bertholdts Direction.
Eren blinked slowly. “…What?”
Reiner finally turned his head slightly, eyes dull from exhaustion.
Bertholdt’s face immediately dropped into panic. “Reiner, wait—”
Hange froze mid-step.
Their eyes widened behind their glasses as the meaning of those words hit all at once.
“…What did you just say?” Hange asked slowly.
Soldiers paused, glancing back at the tension growing at the group.
On point, Mikasa’s hand moved instantly to her blades.
Eren stared at them in complete disbelief, searching Reiner’s face for any sign this was a joke.
There wasn’t one.
Reiner looked terrifyingly serious.
Like someone confessing to a crime they were too tired to keep hiding.
“You heard me,” he said quietly. “Five years ago… we breached the wall.”
Bertholdt looked sick.
His breathing became uneven while panic filled his expression. He looked like he wanted the ground to open beneath him.
Hange took a slow step backward, eyes darting between the two of them rapidly as pieces started connecting in their head.
“The Armored Titan… the Colossal…”
Eren’s face twisted with anger.
“No,” he whispered. “Shut up.”
His voice cracked.
“You’re lying.”
But Reiner didn’t argue.
Didn’t defend himself.
He only looked at Eren with exhausted eyes.
“If you want to save humanity…” he said quietly, “come with us.”
The silence that followed felt unbearable.
Then Mikasa moved.
A flash of steel cut through the air instantly, attempting to strike down Reiner and Bertholdt before they can transform.
