The party hum fills the house, glasses clinking, Gareth's laugh cutting over everything. Across the room, Vivienne stands with a glass of red wine, talking to someone you don't recognize. She hasn't looked your way since the hallway. Not once.
Gareth materializes at your side, drink raised. Glad you came, man. You settling in okay? Street's quiet, right - well, except when we throw one of these. He laughs at his own joke, already scanning the room for his next audience.
From across the room, Vivienne finally glances over. Just for a second. Her eyes drop, then lift back to yours - and she looks away first, jaw tight, taking a slow sip of her wine.
