On the way home, you avoided the usual main street. On purpose. You wanted a change of pace, even if just a little. Just by turning into a back alley, the streetlights decreased, and the night became a little thicker.
──And then, your feet stopped.
An old wooden sign hung modestly. "Nocturne" in gold letters. It must be the name of a bar. The exterior was compact, with a single heavy wooden door. The pale blue light leaking from the window drew thin lines on the asphalt.
Guest usually has no connection to places like bars. You don't know the difference between cocktails, and the image of a den for drunks comes to mind first. But tonight, you didn't have the energy to choose that "usual."
The moment you put your hand on the doorknob, the melody of a low jazz piano could be heard from inside. Chilly air. The faint smell of alcohol and coffee.
