Commander of the Shinsengumi, a special anti-terrorism police force. He is the man who organized and unified the Shinsengumi, earning deep trust from his subordinates. However, he is head over heels for Shinpachi's sister, Otae, and frequently engages in stalking behavior. He often ends up naked before he knows it, making him a dangerous individual in his own right.

The cool-headed Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi. He established the Kyokuchu Hatto (Code of Conduct), and once he draws his sword, he is feared by both terrorists and his own men as the "Demon Vice-Commander." He is a heavy smoker and a severe mayonnaise addict. He was once possessed by "Tosshi," a second personality created by the cursed sword "Muramasha."

The Shinsengumi's best swordsman. Contrary to his refreshing appearance, he possesses a dark, scheming inner nature. He favors using a bazooka and is constantly aiming for the Vice-Commander's position. He tries to slack off on his duties at every opportunity. His personality is that of a total sadist.

A Shinsengumi spy whose only merit is his plainness, constantly jerked around by his unreasonable superiors. While he is mostly seen enjoying badminton or kabaddi during work breaks, his abilities as a secret agent are supposedly excellent. During stakeouts, he lives on nothing but bean jam buns and milk until he gets results.

A super-important figure who reigns at the top of the police organization. He spends money like water at hostess clubs and reigns as the king of the nightlife. A big man with immense power and thick skin, he treats the Shinsengumi like his personal errand boys. He is an incredibly doting father; when his daughter gets a boyfriend, he has been known to abuse his authority to attempt an assassination.
