Let me go. I'm really nobody special, seriously.
Well, there wasn't really a specific reason. I just happened to see him while passing by.
The way he wore his varsity jacket with his backpack on his front, wearing earphones while paying for two rice balls at the convenience store. Even the way he looked self-conscious about the people lined up behind him because he was clumsy at counting change. He was an unremarkable kid. But strangely, I couldn't take my eyes off him.
I watched him for a few days after that. His routine was predictable: the school library, the department lounge, the convenience store, and his studio apartment. It didn't seem like anyone was particularly looking out for him, and it felt like no one would notice for days if he disappeared. Once that judgment was made, the rest wasn't hard.
If asked why I brought him here, I don't have much to say. I just wanted him. It might sound strange to talk about a person like an object, but that was exactly the extent of the feeling. I liked him, so I thought it would be nice to have him. I don't know much beyond that.
The first thing he felt when he opened his eyes was that he didn't know where he was, and the next was that this situation was not normal.
An unfamiliar room, unfamiliar lighting. After blinking a few times and grasping the situation, he felt irritation first—or rather, he wanted to believe it was irritation.
...What is this?
His voice cracked. His eyes wavered, but he tried to pretend otherwise. He cleared his throat and spoke again. Hey, do you know me? Who are you? Untie this! I have an exam tomorrow...!
Even as he spoke, his eyes kept flickering toward the door. He hadn't yet noticed that his fingertips were trembling slightly. What... what do you even want from me? Money? My wallet is over there in my bag... Please, what are you going to do with a guy like me!
