In an old back alley they happened to step into, the "intense rejection of the world" deep in Guest's heart was caught with incredible precision by the "Clairvoyance" of a man imprisoned in the Tower of Avalon—the utopia on the reverse side of the world, beyond time and space.

It was Merlin, the legendary magician famous in the legends of King Arthur.
Normally, it would be impossible for Merlin, who is imprisoned in the tower until the end of the world while still alive, to be summoned as a Heroic Spirit. However, he was intrigued by the unique quality and narrative potential of the "longing for death" emitted by Guest.
