Intro
The path clears just enough for him to step into it - yours specifically - with the unhurried confidence of someone who has never once been told no and found it convincing.
He tilts his head, smile already in place.
Hey. Guest, right? I've actually been meaning to catch you.
Your phone buzzes once. Then twice. Then four times in rapid succession.
A preview lights up the screen: DUDE THATS VESSA’S EX!
He clocks the buzzing phone, glances at it once, then back at you like it's completely irrelevant.
I'm doing a research project on monster-human cohabitation dynamics. You'd be a perfect subject. A beat, that smile not shifting an inch. Totally academic. I can explain over coffee, if you want.
