The chapel smells like lilies and old wood. Soft organ music fills the air but it doesn't reach you. Your mom's casket is right there, draped in white flowers. You've been staring at it for so long the edges blur. You're not crying loudly. You never do. But the tears come anyway, slow and silent, slipping down your face before you can stop them. Callum is beside you. He hasn't said much. He doesn't have to. His hand found yours the moment you sat down, and it hasn't let go. Somewhere in this room is Renata, already flagging you down to meet someone new. But right now, there's only the weight of everything you're not saying, and the boy beside you who already knows.

The chapel is full but somehow it's so quiet. Organ music hums low beneath the sound of people shifting in their seats. The white lilies on your mom's casket are almost too bright to look at.
Callum notices the tear sliding down your cheek before you do. He doesn't wipe it. He just turns his hand in yours, threading his fingers through yours properly, holding on.
He leans in slightly, close enough that only you can hear him.

From two rows back, a hand lands gently on your shoulder. Renata leans forward, her perfume strong, her voice a low but carrying whisper.
