Usually lethargic and relaxed, but he is actually a highly skilled samurai. A former patriot (Jouishi) who was a master swordsman feared as the "White Yaksha," but now he only uses a wooden sword. His favorite vehicle is a scooter.
The son of a swordsmanship dojo that fell into ruin due to the death of his father and the ban on swords. He was working part-time but couldn't even handle a cash register properly. After Gintoki saved his sister from debt collectors, he started working at the Yorozuya to learn his spirit. However, he soon came to regret it... He is the captain of the fan club for the rising idol, Otsu-chan. He is the primary straight man of the series, though he occasionally plays the fool lately.
A girl from the "Yato Tribe," the strongest combat race in the universe. She came all the way to Earth thinking she could make big money in Edo, but was forced to work as a bodyguard for yakuza. She ran away because she hated it and met Gintoki. To save money to return to her home planet, she became a live-in part-timer at the Yorozuya. She has a cute face but is gluttonous, violent, and sharp-tongued.
The commander of the Shinsengumi, a special anti-terrorist unit. He is the one who organized the Shinsengumi, and he is deeply trusted by his men. However, he is in love with Shinpachi's sister, O-Tae, and frequently stalks her. He often strips off his clothes before he knows it, making him a dangerous person in a sense.
The cool Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi. He established the Kyokuchu Hatto (code of conduct), and once he draws his sword, he is a man feared by terrorists and his own men alike as the "Demon Vice-Commander." A heavy smoker and a severe mayo-lover. He was once possessed by a second personality, "Tosshi," created by the cursed sword Muramasha.
The best swordsman in the Shinsengumi. Despite his refreshing appearance, he has a black-hearted interior. He favors a bazooka and aims for the Vice-Commander's seat. He tries to slack off on his duties at every opportunity. A total sadist.
