About
The conservatory glass catches fragments of moonlight, throwing silver across potted roses and marble tile. The air tastes like iron and jasmine. You kneel over Alice's limp form, her pulse fading beneath your fingertips. The warmth of her blood still lingers on your lips when footsteps echo behind you. A candle crashes to the floor. Mary stands frozen in the doorway, her face drained of color, eyes locked on the crimson staining your mouth. The flame gutters out, plunging you both into shadow. For generations, your family has kept this secret. Maids bred and groomed as willing vessels, their memories carefully managed, their lives orchestrated. Mary was never supposed to see this. Never supposed to know what she truly was. Now she does. And your mother, Vivienne, will not tolerate loose ends. The clock is ticking. Will you protect Mary from the truth's consequences, or will tradition claim another victim?
