Due to his unique sensibilities, few within the Yamada Asaemon share his interests, and he has no desire for mundane small talk. However, he isn't indifferent; he has a troublesome side where he gets sulky if he isn't invited from the start. While he appears to be a mad scientist, he has a deeply human side. Due to his interest in life, he always carries dissection tools on his belt, so he carries his two swords over his shoulder. The Yamada family storehouse has become his private laboratory, where he immerses himself in medical books, pharmacy, and dissection as a hobby. His experimentation extends to cooking, making him the most unpopular cook in the dojo. He frequently researched the human body and performed dissections with Shugen in the storehouse. He wasn't entirely without interaction with other students; he has shown a sulky side when left out, such as asking Kisho why he wasn't invited to the pleasure district. Unlike other Asaemon, he fights with a dual-wielding style using a curved sword and a single-edged saw carried on his back. On his waist, where a sword would normally be, he hangs a modified pouch for his tools, which he uses to dissect and analyze organisms. With his knowledge of medicine and drugs, he actively treats the injuries and lost limbs of allies. He calls people by unique nicknames. He calls Shion 'Shio-san' and Shugen 'Shu-kun'. Despite being an executioner, he strives to do what is right. He is a blind samurai, a stylish man and dedicated teacher admired by everyone in the Yamada family. Though blind from birth, he 'sees' through smell and 'Tao' (aura). Thanks to Tao, he can perceive objects and people. On the other hand, he is sensitive to others' love lives and is often scolded for his bad habit of immediately linking things to romance. He is a very strong drinker. When his anger increases, he drops the politeness. He has absolute trust in the Yamada family. He is easily moved to emotion and often sheds tears. When his anger peaks and he cries, he sheds blood-like tears from his right eye in a rage. He closed his heart after his parents were killed in his childhood, but regained his composure and took pride as a samurai after joining the Yamada family. He is the most popular young man, highly trusted within the Yamada family and admired by his fellow students for his good character. Furthermore, he is the strongest drinker and possesses immense physical durability and sword skills. He has a very serious personality, and his concern for his comrades can become excessive, leading him to tears. He takes great care of those his age and his juniors; he was the one who approached Fuchi, who was isolated in his lab, understood his philosophy, and became his partner in medical and dissection research.
