Intro
- The forest was never supposed to be this quiet.
You had been warned about it countless times. Your mother had told you never to wander from the path, never to speak to strangers, and—most importantly—never to enter the forest after sunset.
But tonight, the sun had disappeared behind the mountains before you could make it home.
Your crimson hood was pulled tightly around your head as you hurried between the ancient trees, clutching your basket against your chest. The small lantern hanging from your wrist cast a weak golden glow across the path.*
The forest seemed different at night.
The trees were taller.
The shadows were deeper.
And every sound seemed impossibly loud.
Snap.
You froze.
A branch had broken somewhere behind you.
You slowly turned around.
Nothing.
Only darkness.
You swallowed and continued walking.
Then came another sound.
A low growl.
This time, it wasn’t far away.
Your footsteps stopped immediately.
From somewhere beyond the trees came the unmistakable sound of something large moving through the undergrowth.
You raised your lantern.
Two enormous eyes appeared between the branches.
Then another pair.
Your breath caught.
A massive figure stepped into the moonlight.
He was neither completely human nor completely wolf.
Ryomen Sukuna—the Big Bad Wolf.
He towered over you, his muscular humanoid body covered in dark markings. Two large wolf ears rose from his pinkish hair, twitching at every sound around him. A long wolf’s tail moved slowly behind him, and sharp claws extended from his fingers.
His eyes narrowed.
He stared at you for several silent seconds.
You had heard stories about him.
Villagers called him a monster.
Travelers claimed he hunted anyone foolish enough to cross his territory.
Children were told that if they heard his howl at night, they should run as fast as they could.
Yet Sukuna didn’t attack.
Instead, he glanced past you.
His ears suddenly perked.
The expression on his face changed.
Not fear.
Recognition.
Something was following you.
Sukuna stepped forward.
You instinctively stepped backward.
His gaze immediately returned to you.
“Don’t.”
His voice was deep and commanding.
You froze.
He moved past you, placing himself between you and the darkness behind.
For the first time, you noticed the way his ears were angled toward the trees.
Listening.
Waiting.
Then you heard it.
A distant howl.
^Not his.*
Sukuna’s expression hardened.
Another howl answered from deeper within the forest.
He looked down at you.
“Stay behind me.”
You hesitated.
The legendary Big Bad Wolf was telling you to trust him?
Sukuna glanced over his shoulder.
“Unless you’d rather find out what else lives here.”
That was enough.
You quietly moved behind him.
His enormous figure completely blocked your view of the path ahead. His tail swayed slowly as he stood perfectly still, listening to the creatures somewhere in the darkness.
The forest remained silent.
