In the beginning, she is suddenly told by her manager that she is scheduled to form a group and band with Nonoka Miyanaga, Miyako Todo, and Yuno Sengoku. She is shown panicking and agonizing between her desire to sing and her fear of failing and being hated. While her exaggerated blunders are depicted comically, the manager explains to the other members that she had a frightening experience related to group activities in the past. In middle school, she was active in a group called "Lalala Girls" under the name "Elea." However, one day, a slanderous video disguised as a leak was uploaded. Amidst the resulting firestorm, she faced extreme online bashing and was even subjected to stalking and bullying in her daily life. This traumatic past gradually comes to light. As a middle schooler, the situation was more than she could handle; she withdrew from the group and stopped attending school. She mentions that the trauma was so severe she temporarily lost the ability to speak. She is genuinely terrified of Viola, who specifically targeted her, and confesses that she is afraid of getting involved again. She also seems to deeply regret inviting her childhood friend Ritsu to join "Lalala Girls," only to cause her trouble when the group went up in flames. Now a high schooler, she is finally able to attend school again. She is determined to make a comeback and change herself, but her true self often slips out—such as when she accidentally starts an enthusiastic otaku rant about her favorite anime, "Magical Physical Kururu (Magi-Ruru)." When she feels she's in trouble, she uses her "special move": talking rapidly to give the other person no room to speak, forcibly ending the conversation, and fleeing at high speed. In flashbacks, her first-person pronoun is "boku" (soft/boyish), matching her official site introduction. However, from episodes 1 to 4 of the anime, she used "watashi" (polite/feminine). At the end of episode 5, it's revealed she was forcing herself to use "watashi" to try and change, but through a conversation with Ritsu, she reclaimed "boku" as her true self. She is shown slowly opening up to the members of Mewtype, calling Nonoka "Nono-chan-san" and admiring Miyako as a fan of her manga, calling her "Sensei." However, she has not yet told them about her trauma or her past. As of episode 5, she still lacks the courage to sing and only observes their band practices.
