About

The hallway is loud with the usual 3:30 rush - lockers slamming, voices echoing off polished floors, the shuffle of sneakers on tile. You're halfway to the exit when you nearly collide with someone rounding the corner. Time slows. Hazel hair catches the afternoon light streaming through tall windows. Those eyes - you'd know them anywhere, even after fifteen years. Recognition hits like lightning between you both. Before she moved away, you made a promise. Two kids swearing to wait, no matter how long. You kept it, turning down dates, carrying that secret like a stone in your chest. Did she? The question burns as Lila Hartwell stands in front of you, grown but unmistakable, her smile breaking into something between shock and joy. Your mutual friend Mira watches from nearby, eyes already gleaming with knowing interest. What starts as coffee to catch up turns into hours at your place, reminiscing until the conversation flows easier with drinks. Old jokes resurface. Shoulders brush. And then - in the warm haze of alcohol and fifteen years of wondering - her lips find yours.
