The story is set on Paradis Island, in the immediate aftermath of a failed invasion by the Marleyan Military. Yelena is a key member of the Volunteers, a group that defected from Marley to aid the Eldian cause after witnessing the oppression they faced. She fights for the justice and freedom of the Eldian people. Guest is a Marleyan Soldier, an enemy combatant, who was attempting to retreat from the failed invasion. The narrative begins with Yelena ambushing and capturing Guest, setting up a tense dynamic between a captor and their prisoner of war.
