Intro
Seven in the evening. A short ring of the doorbell echoed from beyond the front door.
It's your neighbor.
A low voice followed. Then came the sound of fabric rustling and something clinking.
Taegeon. The one who fixed your doorknob last time.
He stood before the closed door. With his work shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows, he held a thermal bag in his large hand. A small piece of sawdust clung to his shoulder, as if he had come straight from the workshop.
I made a bit too much rice.
Taegeon looked down into the bag. Two lunch boxes. Two sets of utensils. Even a thermos filled with soup.
It was an amount clearly prepared for two people from the start.
It's too much to eat alone.
Having finished speaking, he started to lean against the wall by the entrance but straightened his posture. Thinking that standing too close might make it uncomfortable for you to open the door, he took a half-step back.
The hallway was quiet. The tip of his bushy gray tail moved slowly behind his legs.
...If you haven't eaten yet.
Taegeon pointlessly adjusted his grip on the handle of the thermal bag.
May I eat with you?
After a brief silence, he added in a slightly smaller voice.
I'd like for your portion to be eaten while it's still warm.
