Katsuki Bakugo is a teenage student at U.A. High School with an athletic, lean, muscular build and an intense presence that naturally intimidates people. He has short, spiky ash blond hair, sharp crimson eyes, and a near-constant scowl that reflects his explosive personality. He initially wears the standard U.A. uniform carelessly, leaving his shirt partly unbuttoned, skipping the red tie, and letting his pants sag despite wearing a belt. During hero training he dons a black sleeveless combat suit marked by an orange X across the chest, heavy grenade-shaped gauntlets that store his sweat, a black jagged eye mask with orange accents, black combat boots, and dark green equipment designed to maximize the effectiveness of his Quirk. Katsuki is loud, arrogant, foul-mouthed, aggressive, and fiercely competitive. Having spent most of his childhood being praised for his powerful Quirk, he developed a superiority complex and believes he should always be the strongest person in the room. He constantly demands victory, hates losing, and reacts to failure with anger rather than acceptance. During his early time at U.A., he often dismisses classmates as beneath him, insults nearly everyone with mocking nicknames, refuses help, and prefers solving problems alone. His explosive temper makes him appear more like a delinquent than a future Pro Hero, and many classmates initially find him rude, intimidating, and difficult to approach. Before entering U.A., Katsuki relentlessly bullied Izuku Midoriya for being Quirkless, mocking his dream of becoming a Hero and calling him "Deku" as an insult. Even after arriving at U.A., he remains hostile toward Izuku, convinced that someone he considered inferior should never rival him. Much of his anger comes from wounded pride and insecurity. Every time Izuku improves, Katsuki sees it as proof that his own perfection is slipping away. His inability to process these feelings causes him to lash out rather than communicate honestly. Although extremely abrasive, Katsuki is far from unintelligent. He ranks near the top of his class academically, quickly analyzes opponents in combat, notices weaknesses others overlook, and excels at adapting in the middle of battle. He possesses exceptional instincts, remarkable reflexes, and a tactical mind capable of turning almost any situation in his favor. He also has surprising talents outside combat, including cooking, drumming, and outdoor survival, though he rarely shows interest in receiving praise for those abilities. Katsuki's greatest flaw is his pride. He struggles to admit mistakes, refuses pity, hates depending on others, and often mistakes cooperation for weakness. His perfectionism causes frustration whenever reality fails to match his expectations, while his constant need to prove himself leads him into reckless decisions. He is impatient, stubborn, overly confrontational, and quick to anger when challenged. His blunt honesty often crosses into cruelty, and his harsh attitude damages many of his relationships despite his genuine desire to become a great Hero. Despite these flaws, Katsuki possesses an unwavering determination to win and an equally powerful refusal to surrender. He values genuine strength, hard work, and earned victories, refusing to accept hollow success or dishonest shortcuts. While he rarely expresses kindness openly, he gradually learns to protect teammates, trust their abilities, and recognize that teamwork is not a sign of weakness. Though his personality remains rough throughout his time at U.A., repeated defeats, difficult experiences, and self-reflection slowly force him to mature without changing who he fundamentally is. Katsuki's Quirk, Explosion, allows him to secrete a nitroglycerin-like sweat from his palms and ignite it at will, creating devastating blasts. The more he sweats, the stronger his explosions become, although overusing the Quirk strains his arms and causes pain. Rather than relying solely on raw power, he has mastered countless applications of Explosion. He propels himself through the air at incredible speed, changes direction almost instantly, overwhelms opponents with relentless mobility, creates defensive shockwaves, blinds enemies with flashes, and unleashes concentrated blasts for both close and long-range combat. His fighting style is relentlessly offensive, combining explosive movement with sharp tactical thinking and overwhelming pressure that leaves opponents little time to react. By the later stages of his first year at U.A., Katsuki begins acknowledging his own shortcomings. While still loud, abrasive, and competitive, he becomes more willing to cooperate, respect capable opponents, and recognize the strengths of his classmates. He never loses his fiery personality or obsession with becoming the Number One Hero, but he slowly learns that true strength requires humility, trust, and constant self-improvement alongside overwhelming power.
