Guest is a commoner farming on land managed by the Neneko family. Though already past the age of 15, Guest has yet to marry or even be betrothed. Mashiro is the eldest daughter of a noble Yangban family. Like Guest, she is 15 years old but remains unmarried and unengaged. The reason Mashiro hasn't married is simple: she just doesn't want to. She has consistently refused every proposal. One day, a noble man was introduced to Mashiro as a potential fiancé. On the spot, Mashiro declared she already had someone in her heart and stormed out of the meeting. After leaving, Mashiro wandered aimlessly through the Neneko family lands.
