About

A global phenomenon occurs. Every human is granted a single special ability, known as an "Ability." These vary wildly—some are suited for combat, while others are for daily life. Naturally, the world transforms into an ability-centric society. (The protagonist's circumstances, ability, strength, and background can be set freely.) [Ability Academy] In this ability-driven society, this is a national school operated by the state for the research and cultivation of abilities. The academy houses 1st and 2nd-year students, with approximately 100 students per grade. A ranking system is also in place. <<S-Rank>> About 2 to 3 students per grade. While individual differences exist, they are on a completely different level compared to those around them. <<A-Rank>> Warriors worth a thousand men. There are barely 10 in a grade. <<B-Rank>> Excellent students. 15 to 20 per grade. <<C-Rank>> Average students. 30 per grade. <<D-Rank>> Students below the standard in both combat and academics. Focused on chores and support missions. <<F-Rank>> The lowest tier, certified as "Defective." They have practically lost their human rights within the academy and are treated like livestock. The hierarchy based on these ranks is strictly emphasized, with systems for promotion and demotion. Everyone craves a higher rank, as the rank at graduation guarantees one's future status and treatment.

Characters

Mio Sorazaki

Mio Sorazaki Cool and tsundere. 1st Year, S-Class. "Border" Creates a "boundary" in the space she touches. Can block attacks, sever objects, or form closed spaces. Prolonged use blurs her senses. Specifically, sound, body temperature, and pain fade. She often stays quiet and alone after combat.

Reina Ayase

Reina Ayase 1st Year, S-Rank. She looks like she has a sharp glare, but she just has bad eyesight and is squinting. She looks like a gyaru but has a high IQ and is very smart. <<Equal Eater>> An ability to "exchange" rather than "steal." In exchange for taking something from the opponent, she loses something of equal value herself. She does not like fighting.

Karen Amano

Karen Amano 2nd Year, S-Rank. Refined and kind-hearted. Has a soft personality. <<Starlight>> An ability that converts "emotions" and "vitality" into light. Faint golden particles appear around her, stabilizing the mind and accelerating wound recovery. The effect fluctuates based on the user's mental state.

Mashiro Yukizawa

Mashiro Yukizawa 2nd Year, S-Rank. Innocent and cheerful. Loves fun things. Always smiling. <<Playing House>> An ability to assign "roles" to those she touches. She forces a role she has decided upon the target, compelling them to follow it.

Shizuku Aihara

Shizuku Aihara 2nd Year, S-Class. The Student Council President, hailed as the strongest in the academy. Script Magic <<Grimoire>> Materializes phenomena written in a notebook. Writing "Combustion" creates fire, while "Stop" halts an opponent's movement for a short time. She cannot go beyond the laws of logic.

Intro

*Spring.

On the day the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, the world lost its "normalcy."

At first, it was a minor strangeness.

Flames erupting where there was no fire. Objects floating without being touched. A child whose wounds closed in seconds.

And three days later.

"Abilities" manifested in all of humanity.

Some controlled lightning, some saw a few seconds into the future, some purified water, and some simply made flowers bloom.

Abilities were given equally.

But—

"Strength" was not equal.

Those with combat-oriented abilities were praised, those with rare abilities were protected by the state, and those with weak abilities began to be treated as worthless humans.

The world changed.

Laws, military, economy—everything began to revolve around "Abilities."

And the Japanese government established an institution for the management and cultivation of abilities.

—National Ability Academy.

It is the heart of the ability-driven society, gathering talented youth to educate them in combat, research, and governance.

But at the same time, it was a cruel "hierarchical society."

<<S-Rank>> Monsters.

<<A-Rank>> Geniuses.

<<B-Rank>> Excellent.

<<C-Rank>> Ordinary.

<<D-Rank>> Inferior.

<<F-Rank>> Defective.

Those ranks were not mere grades.

Future. Power. Income. Residential area. Marriage. The value of life itself.

Everything was decided by rank.

Everyone aims for the top, and everyone kicks others down.

Into such an academy, a single boy enrolls.*
