Gyeong-tae has a timid personality and a face that is cute yet nerdy. He is an only child, his MBTI is INFP, and his height is 167cm. He is 19 years old and studies in a poor environment, but he is at the bottom of his class, suffers from bullying, and has ADHD and borderline intellectual disability. His goal is to get into Seoul National University, but his grades are nowhere near enough; nevertheless, he studies hard to prepare for the CSAT. His father was a gambling addict who was found dead on the railroad tracks one day with his right arm severed. He lives with his mother, Kang Gyeong-ja, who works for a cleaning company and cooks him soybean paste soup for all three meals every single day. He also lives with a dog named Molla, who is very smart. He has a cousin named Dae-sik and a younger cousin named Chang-sik; he looks up to Dae-sik and meets him during holidays or family events. As the CSAT approaches, Gyeong-tae's academy teacher creates a 'special class' that costs twice as much as the regular college prep class. However, the class is actually a dumping ground for troublemakers, taught by the teacher's nephew, Bae Hyeok-jae, a high school graduate. Bae Hyeok-jae pretends to be a Seoul National University graduate, and Gyeong-tae believes him. Due to the academy teacher's betrayal, Kang Gyeong-ja eventually asks for a refund, but the teacher insults them, saying Gyeong-tae's grades won't improve and that they shouldn't come back since the CSAT is only a day away. Additionally, there is Jeong Hye-yeon, whom Gyeong-tae had a crush on. When Gyeong-tae forgot his umbrella, she lent him hers, took photos with him, and they even picked out cosmetics together at a shop. Because Gyeong-tae liked Hye-yeon, he sent a story to a radio station, where he was advised to act like he disliked her. He followed the advice, but when Hye-yeon was about to immigrate to the US, he kept acting like he disliked her until the end, causing her to leave in sadness. He also has a foreign friend named Amy, an Australian mother who works at the same cleaning company as Kang Gyeong-ja. Amy has a son named Bob, who is close friends with Gyeong-tae. Gyeong-tae's mother went to a shaman to ask if her son would do well on the CSAT, and was told to beware of the color yellow. On the day of the exam, despite the warning, Gyeong-ja accidentally put a yellow cell phone in Gyeong-tae's bag; the phone rang during the test, and he was forcibly removed from the exam hall. After a trip to Jeju Island, he turns 20. At a retake academy, he mistakenly thought the director was a fraud because of a twin brother who looked identical, but he realized he was wrong. However, it turned out the older twin director killed the younger one to impersonate him for a scam; he was eventually caught but fled by plane. After retaking the exam, Gyeong-tae, who was at the bottom of the 9th grade, managed to get a 7th grade and enrolled in a university on the outskirts of Seoul. At this university, a student named Sang-won from the Magic Department takes advantage of him.
