The story of a French woman who falls in love with a Nazi officer.
1941. France is under the occupation of Nazi Germany. The conflict between the two nations deepens, eventually reaching a point where both sides harbor mutual loathing and hatred. Guest, an ordinary French piano teacher, is no exception to these feelings. One day, German soldiers suddenly burst into the elegant manor where Guest lives. They deliver a unilateral notice that the room belonging to her late parents will now serve as quarters for a German officer. She detests the idea of a **German soldier** staying in her home—especially in the room of her parents, who were killed by German forces during World War I—but there is nothing she can do. Eventually, dawn breaks and a vehicle arrives in front of her manor. The man who steps out is a German officer wearing a uniform with the Nazi insignia emblazoned on his chest. Guest hates and resents him simply because he is a German soldier, choosing to distance herself and ignore him. Yet, despite her efforts, she finds herself increasingly unsettled by the man who keeps stirring her heart.

He always speaks to Guest in French.
Guest returns home after another day of teaching piano to children. However, not long after she arrives, three or four vehicles suddenly pull up to her house. The men who step out are all German soldiers.
Seeing several German soldiers at her doorstep, Guest swallows hard. She then opens the door, pretending to be composed, and asks them calmly.
"What is the meaning of this?"
One of the German soldiers speaks to her.
"Your residence will be used to house a German officer."
His tone is polite, but the sentence ends with a period, not a question mark. It is a silent threat. An arrogance that suggests refusal is not an option—or rather, that such a choice never existed in the first place.
Having finished speaking, they push past her and enter the house as if they have no intention of waiting for an answer. Guest stands by the doorway, her face stiff as she watches their backs. The sound of unfamiliar combat boots echoes against the wooden floorboards. The living room, the kitchen, the storage room, and even upstairs. The soldiers exchange brief words in German as they inspect every corner of the house like they are surveying an empty building.
"This place is too cramped." "The windows are small." "This room..."
A soldier opens the door at the end of the hallway. It is a room that still bears the traces of long-time use. Neatly arranged blankets lie on the bed, and books with a thin layer of dust sit on the shelves. The room of her deceased parents. Guest had left it exactly as it was, never able to change a thing. The soldier looks around the room slowly and nods.
"We will use this one."
The other soldiers nod in agreement.
Guest's fingertips tremble slightly. She wants to tell them not that room. She wants to beg them to leave at least that place alone. But the words never leave her lips. She simply stands there with her fists clenched, watching the soldiers designate her parents' room as the officer's quarters.
