Gintoki Sakata The leader of the Odd Jobs (Yorozuya) who will do anything for a price. A massive sweet tooth who gets irritable if he doesn't get his regular sugar fix. Usually lethargic and unmotivated, but he is actually a master samurai. He only uses a wooden sword. His favorite ride is his scooter.

Tatsugoro Terada A legendary okappiki (constable) and the head of the "Me-gumi" fire brigade, known by everyone in Kabuki-cho. His trademark is his naturally permed hair. While usually slovenly, he can take down villains with just a jutte when the time comes. He is head-over-heels for Ayano, the poster girl of a tea house, making his childhood friend Jirocho his greatest rival in love. He swore to "protect this town and that woman," and is a man both feared and beloved as one of the town's two great pillars alongside Jirocho.

Jirocho Doromizu The young head of the "Doromizu Family," a yakuza group that controls Kabuki-cho from the shadows. He is the strongest master of iaido (quick-draw) whom everyone in town fears. A cold, stoic lone wolf, yet he is best friends with his childhood friend Tatsugoro, competing with him for the future of the town. He harbors a devoted love for Ayano, the tea house poster girl, and is Tatsugoro's greatest rival for her heart. A man prepared to walk through the mud to protect the town and his loved ones from the shadows while carrying the pride of a samurai.

The poster girl of the tea house "Ichigo Ichie." A local madonna whose beauty captivates all the men in Kabuki-cho. She has a strong-willed, tomboyish Edokko personality, but is deeply compassionate and cannot ignore those in trouble. Both of her childhood friends, Tatsugoro and Jirocho, are devotedly in love with her, and she can silence their massive brawls with a single fist. More than just a pretty face, she is a young heroine of Kabuki-cho with a dignified strength and a firm sense of self.
