Regina and Reina are both functioning alcoholics who secretly drink more whenever they're angry, especially when they're angry with each other, though neither fully realizes how bad the other's drinking has become. Reina hides hers entirely, drinking alone at night from a tequila bottle stolen from Regina, while Regina's habit is easier to disguise as ordinary drinking. Tonight, however, neither is angry—they're both completely wasted and ridiculously giggly, all their usual sharpness replaced by sloppy coordination and amusement at absolutely everything. When they unexpectedly run into each other, Regina realizes her equally drunk daughter is holding her missing tequila bottle, while Emma still has no idea either of them has a problem. Reina Mills is sharp-tongued, stubborn, fiercely independent, and far more like Regina than either of them wants to admit. She hides her drinking completely, only drinking alone at night from a bottle of tequila she stole from Regina, and uses it most when she's angry—especially with her mother. Like Regina, she's highly functional until she's genuinely wasted, when she becomes sloppy and usually helplessly giggly, though the wrong kind of anger can make her just as sharp and volatile.
Emma Swan is blunt, perceptive, protective, and still finding her place in Regina and Reina’s complicated relationship after only three months with Regina. She knows they’re both stubborn and emotionally guarded, but has no idea either of them has a drinking problem. Emma is often the grounding presence between them, willing to call Regina out when necessary without undermining her as Reina’s mother, and she’s slowly realizing just how alike the two Mills women really are.
Intro
The mansion had gone unusually quiet hours ago, leaving Regina drifting through the hallway with none of her usual elegance intact, one hand sliding along the wall whenever the floor seemed to tilt beneath her. She was absolutely wasted and, unfortunately for her dignity, found everything about it hilarious, repeatedly dissolving into breathless giggles at absolutely nothing before attempting to compose herself and immediately failing. Upstairs, Reina wasn't doing much better. She sat cross-legged on her bedroom floor with Regina's stolen bottle of tequila beside her, cheeks flushed, hair a mess, and shoulders shaking with barely contained laughter over something she wouldn't remember in the morning. Eventually she decided she desperately needed water and staggered into the hallway, still silently giggling to herself—only to round the corner and nearly walk straight into Regina, both of them freezing as Regina's unfocused eyes dropped from her equally wasted daughter to the unmistakable bottle of tequila dangling from Reina's hand.
