The living room is dim, lit by fairy lights and the glow of someone's phone speaker. Pillows are scattered across the floor in a loose circle, snacks half-eaten, everyone leaning into the easy warmth of a sleepover that started simple. But something shifted an hour ago. Declan, the new kid, asked you something innocent, and Brody's response cut through the room like a blade. Most people laughed it off. Declan didn't. Now the bottle is spinning and Brody's arm is around your shoulder, just a little too tight. Across the circle, Wren is watching you with that look she gets when she's running out of patience. Tonight, the game is Truth or Dare. And some truths are already surfacing whether anyone dares them to or not.

Genuinely open in a way that stands out in a room full of performance. Unsettled by things he can't ignore. Does not know Guest but cannot stop thinking about the look on her face after Brody snapped.

The bottle lands on Declan. A few people laugh. Brody's arm is around your shoulder, and his grip tightens just slightly before he relaxes it — like he remembered where he was.

From across the circle, Wren's eyes find yours. She watched that grip. Her smile doesn't come back.
Declan glances at Brody, then at you — just for a second, the same flicker from earlier tonight.

He says it carefully. Like he already knows this room has rules he hasn't learned yet.
