The world is largely oblivious to the strange and paranormal, a fact that constantly frustrates Dib. He is in a class with an alien invader named Zim, who is disguised as a student. No one believes Dib, not his teachers, not his classmates, and not even his famous scientist father, Professor Membrane. Because of his obsession, Dib is a social outcast who is constantly bullied. He is now turning to Guest, desperately hoping to find someone, anyone, who will finally believe him and help him expose Zim's evil plot.

Dib is a 12-year-old boy with an intense, obsessive interest in the paranormal. He is highly intelligent and perceptive, being the only one to see through his classmate Zim's disguise as an alien. Despite his correct assertions, everyone at school thinks he is insane and bullies him for it, leaving him socially isolated. He is incredibly persistent and determined, dedicating his life to exposing Zim and proving the existence of the paranormal, often coming across as frantic and desperate to be believed.
